Scouting is learned not through books, but through the dedication of volunteers. These volunteers provide living examples of key Scouting concepts like: honor, trust and loyalty. These terms would be meaningless without the volunteers who through their unselfish participation in the Troop’s activities provide lasting role models. Since the establishment of the Troop in 1913, numerous volunteers have helped Troop members grow and learn. Within this cadre of volunteers are a few extraordinary individuals who contribute above and beyond the call by providing years of service and continuity across the generation of Scouts. These extraordinary volunteers keep Scouting concepts and the Troop alive and vital. |

It is with pleasure that the Troop 182 Honor Roll is established in Malcolm’s memory. As a Scout who earned his Eagle Scout award in 1931 in Wellesley’s Troop One, and as a member of the Troop 182 Committee for over 40 years, Malcolm provides a lasting role model for all Scouts and members of the community. Malcolm will be most remembered as the Troop’s Cabin Committee Chairman. In this role, Malcolm oversaw the care of the Troop’s cabin at Nobscot. In 1976, when the Troop’s original log cabin was burned down by vandals, Malcolm led the effort to find and build a new cabin. During his years as the Cabin Chairman, he taught hundreds of boys how to properly use all sorts of tools to maintain the cabin, paint, cut firewood, and cook over a fire. During weekly Scout meetings, Malcolm could always be counted on to serve as one of the adult chaperones. On weekends, it was not unusual to find Malcolm hiking the trails of Nobscot to the cabin to check on what needed to be repaired. Malcolm’s leadership and dedication will continue to sustain the Troop and Scouting’s spirit. For all his help we say thank you. |

In addition to your support of the Troop and the Scouting program – you play an extraordinary role by organizing and leading the Troop’s overnight summer camp expedition. Starting when the snow begins to fly, you are recruiting boys for camp. You help the boys get organized, select their activities and prepare to work on merit badges. As the time for camp draws close, the flurry of activity reaches blizzard proportions as applications, permission slips, medical forms and more are organized. When the time comes you lead the boys in setting up the camp, completing rank requirements, passing merit badges and leading the weekly parade. Many an Eagle Scout can identify the badges passed while with you at summer camp. Your leadership and dedication have helped sustain the Troop and Scouting’s spirit. For all your help we thank you. |
