The Order of the Arrow is a "Brotherhood of Scout Honor Campers", often referred to as the Brotherhood of Cheerful Service. We are a group of people who have been elected by our peers as being capable of upholding the honor through our continued actions of cheerful service to others. It is a youth-run organization, meaning that all important decisions are made by the youth [age 20 or less] with advice from the adult advisors. More information is available in the Order of the Arrow history page.
To be a member of the Order of the Arrow, you must be a current member of the Boy Scouts of America [Troops, Venture Crews, Explorer Posts, etc.]. You may be elected in as either a youth or an adult [adults are considered age 21+]. After election, you have one year to attend an Ordeal Weekend, during which you will go through what we lovingly refer to as "The Ordeal". After successfully completing the weekend, you are then a member of the Order of the Arrow.
Your son will receive a packet in the mail (usually by mid-April) describing what must be brought to the Ordeal Weekend and when and where the weekend will be. An up-to-date health form must be sent in with the registration, or brought with your scout to the weekend. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to email your Lodge Advisor, Chris Thorp, and he will be happy to talk with you about it.
A Lodge is the Council-equivalent in the Order of the Arrow. Every BSA Council has one OA Lodge associated with it.
Our lodge is Chippanyonk Lodge 59. The best way to keep up with lodge activities to to be active. The lodge website is a good place to start.

Ordeal on May 11 13, 2012 at Camp Resolute:
We need all hands, new & old to be there to help set up the camp for events at camp, including the Section NE1A Conclave being held June 8 10. We as the host Lodge need to put our best foot forward and uphold our reputation of hosting the biggest and best Conclave ever they are still talking about the 2007 Conclave at Resolute! We have a lot planned for the Conclave the Section officers have been working on this since last June.
However - we need everyones help. Chris Gadd of Troop 41 Marlboro is the Conclave Coordinator, and he has been doing a great job of starting to recruit help for the weekend but we will need 30 50 more people to help spread the workload around email Chris at tardispilot2@verizon.net to volunteer to help and go to www.conclave.ne1a.org to sign up do so as Lodge 2 which is the Service Lodge. There will be a camp set-up day on Saturday April 14th to start the process of setting up camp and preparing for the Conclave. Please come and help even if you can only stay for part of the day.
The National Order of the Arrow Conference (NOAC) is being held this summer in Michigan the Lodge is sending a contingent there is still room for more participants Bill Mill-Curran, the Lodge Advisor; Stephen Maire, an ASM from T 185; and myself are the adult advisors. The Viking District needs to step up and do our part in making Chippanyonk Lodge the best it can be if we all remind the members in our Units that it is supposed to be more than a patch on our shirts and a white piece of cloth with an arrow on it. Thanks for all you do for Scouting lets all work to make the 2012 Conclave one they will talk about for years to come.
