Rank Advancement and Merit Badges
Rank Advancement
Scout, Tenderfoot, and Second Class rank advancements can mostly be accomplished at Troop Meetings, Nobscot camping overnights, and Summer Camps (Camp Yawgoog, Camp Resolute).  Contact the Senior Patrol Leader or Scoutmaster either during a meeting or a few days prior to a meeting to discuss actual requirements that you would like to work on, for these 3 ranks.  You may not be able to work on rank advancement requirements at every meeting, so attend every meeting that you can.  Pay attention to the Troop Calender to see when Nobscot overnight camping trips are scheduled, and sign up for these campouts at troop meetings.  Sign up for Summer Camps (also a great place to earn Merit Badges) at troop meetings in late Spring.
First Class rank advancement is mostly accomplished at camps.  In particular, Requirement 2 (map & compass), Requirement 3 (3 overnight camps), and Requirement 4 (patrol camp cooking) should be done on overnight camping trips.
Star and Life rank advancement require Leadership, Service Hours, and active troop involvement (in addition to Merit Badges).  For Leadership, The Troop holds patrol leader elections every year (contact the Senior Patrol Leader or Scoutmaster).  In addition, you can volunteer for or be elected to other open leadership positions including Troop Scribe, Troop Librarian, Troop Historian, Troop Quartermaster, Troop Bugler, Troop Webmaster, and others.  Leadership can also be earned by carrying out Scoutmaster-assigned leadership projects to help the troop.  Service hours can be earned by assisting with Eagle Scout Projects for Scouts working on their Eagle Rank (see Troop Calendar).
All rank advancements go through a Scoutmaster conference followed up by a Board of Review.  Be prepared for both -- they are intended to make sure that you have met all requirements and are engaged in the Scout spirit.  Merit Badge, Leadership, Service Hour, and other requirements will be checked.
